Members of the class Insecta are best adapted to living on?

I originally a was the answer, but I started doubting as they have adapted to living on all places in the world, but they are best adapted land. Am I correct?

Answer 1

Insects belong to a class under phylum Arthropoda.

Members of class Insecta are definitely adapted for living on land.

  • The chitinous exoskeleton helps insects to prevent loss of water from body.
  • Three pair of legs help them to do a lot of things to live actively in their environment: they can walk, run, crawl, hop, climb, hold and can also hang.
  • Insects breathe air, even those which are living in water; for which they have spiracular openings and branched tubular tracheae .
  • As insects live on land they must conserve water, hence there is excretion of semi solid uric acid rich nitrogenous waste product.
  • Then there are insects with wings.

Insects are absent mainly in saline water.
