A sample of mineral is magnetic if it exhibits both attraction and repulsion to a magnetic.

Although lodestone isn't a guarantee if the sample passes both of these tests, some types of cobalt and nickel also act as natural magnets.

To confirm that the sample is lodestone, additional testing such as the density and streak tests would be necessary.
