Is silver a solid, liquid, or gas at room temperature?

Answer 1

Silver is a solid at room temperature.

Silver forms a sea of electrons which are passed between all silver atoms in a location. This creates strong bonds between the silver atoms which is called metallic bonding.

Mercury is the only metal that is a liquid at room temperature. The electron configuration of Mercury is somewhat stable with all of the s, d electrons in its valance shell completely filled, allowing the atoms not to bond tightly with the other Mercury atoms.

Silver has eleven valance electrons which means it is always short one electron to having the filled sub shells like Mercury. Therefore to be stable Silver uses metallic bonding which causes Silver to be a solid at room temperature.

When evaluating a one-sided limit, you need to be careful when a quantity is approaching zero since its sign is different depending on which way it is approaching zero from. Let us look at some examples.
