Is Dalton's law of partial pressure dependent upon ideal behavior?

Answer 1

Interesting question; I would have to say no.

The Ideal Gas Law made several assumptions about gas behavior, and makes a reasonable approximation and model of the behavior of gas at moderate temperatures, and lowish pressures.

Dalton's Law of partial pressures was an experimental finding, which led to the development of the Ideal Gas Law. The observation that #n, "the number of moles"# #prop# #P# given constant temperature and volume was a fairly early experimental finding.

Answer 2

No, Dalton's law of partial pressure is not dependent upon ideal behavior. It applies to both ideal and non-ideal gases.

When evaluating a one-sided limit, you need to be careful when a quantity is approaching zero since its sign is different depending on which way it is approaching zero from. Let us look at some examples.
