Answer 1

An idea or two...

It seems to me that "secret" could refer to various elements in the story which are effectively hidden from most readers by virtue of our distance from the culture in which it was written.

The secret could be related to Boaz, who was the "family redeemer" and ultimately became an ancestor of Jesus who is the redeemer of the whole human family.

Ruth was redeemed from Moab to a great extent by her choices to serve and follow the God of Israel, then God provided her redeemer in Boaz.

The Book of Ruth in the Bible is rich in symbolism and themes, with various interpretations offered by scholars and theologians. One of the central themes of Ruth is loyalty and faithfulness, as demonstrated by Ruth's commitment to her mother-in-law Naomi. The story also highlights the concept of divine providence, showcasing how God works through ordinary events and individuals to fulfill His purposes. Additionally, Ruth serves as a narrative of redemption, illustrating how God's grace can transform lives and restore brokenness.

Moreover, the Book of Ruth is often interpreted allegorically, with Ruth symbolizing the Gentile church and Boaz representing Christ as the Redeemer. This allegorical interpretation emphasizes the inclusivity of God's salvation plan, extending beyond the boundaries of ethnicity or nationality. The genealogy of King David at the end of the book further underscores Ruth's significance in the lineage of Jesus Christ, emphasizing God's sovereignty and the fulfillment of His promises through generations.

Furthermore, the Book of Ruth provides insights into themes of kindness, hospitality, and community. Ruth's character exemplifies virtues such as humility, diligence, and compassion, serving as a model for righteous living. The story also highlights the importance of social justice and care for the marginalized, as seen in Boaz's provision for Ruth and Naomi, as well as the laws concerning gleaning in the fields.

Overall, the Book of Ruth offers layers of meaning and depth that resonate with readers across cultures and generations. Its themes of loyalty, redemption, providence, and social justice continue to inspire reflection, interpretation, and application in both religious and secular contexts.
