In a bouquet of flowers, there are daisies and 17 roses. How do you write the ratio of daisies to roses in three different ways?

Answer 1

Making up the number of daisies. The method will be the same.

Suppose we had 34 daisies and 17 roses.

#color(white)()#
Format 1: daisies to roses #-> 34:17#
#color(white)()#
Format 2: #("daisies")/("roses") -> 34/17#
#color(white)()#

Format 3: The count of daisies for 1 rose.

#color(white)("ddddddd") ("daisies")/("roses")->(34-:17)/(17-:17)=2/1=2#

This format is used in Trigonometry which you will come across later in your schooling live.

Answer 2

The ratio of daisies to roses can be written in three different ways:

  1. As a fraction:

    • ( \frac{\text{Number of daisies}}{\text{Number of roses}} = \frac{\text{daisies}}{\text{roses}} )
  2. Using a colon:

    • ( \text{Number of daisies} : \text{Number of roses} = \text{daisies} : \text{roses} )
  3. As a verbal ratio:

    • "The ratio of daisies to roses is [number]:[number]."

When evaluating a one-sided limit, you need to be careful when a quantity is approaching zero since its sign is different depending on which way it is approaching zero from. Let us look at some examples.
