How would you explain Le Chatelier's principle?

Answer 1

How would I explain it? Well, I hope to do so correctly.

When an external disturbance occurs in an equilibrium, the equilibrium will shift in order to counteract the external disturbance.

The important point to note here is that #"offset"# is not equivalent to #"counteract"#. Certainly with temperature changes, the equilibrium may be subject to change with respect to the equilibrium constant. We speak of the initial change, the first response, of the equilibrium mixture.

Answer 2

Le Chatelier's principle states that if a system at equilibrium is subjected to a change in temperature, pressure, or concentration of reactants or products, the system will shift its equilibrium position to counteract the imposed change, thereby partially offsetting the disturbance.

When evaluating a one-sided limit, you need to be careful when a quantity is approaching zero since its sign is different depending on which way it is approaching zero from. Let us look at some examples.
