How is population density determined?
A representative sample of a species is taken from an area of interest.
Since it is too difficult to count an entire population, all "population" statistics must be derived from samples. Nevertheless, statistical techniques are available to provide very useful and reasonably accurate values.
A "representative sample" is created, starting with the area of interest, and may consist of several sites in addition to the bare minimum of observations needed to reach the intended degree of accuracy (minimum error).
Population density, which is commonly expressed as the number of species per hectare (S.I.) or square mile (English), is then determined statistically from the values obtained from the sampling process.

Population density is calculated by dividing the population of a region by its land area. The formula is: Population Density = Population / Land Area.

When evaluating a one-sided limit, you need to be careful when a quantity is approaching zero since its sign is different depending on which way it is approaching zero from. Let us look at some examples.
