Species adapt to their environment.

If, for instance, a cow grazed on grass but the grass disappeared, the cow would not be able to consume its primary food source. There are a number of reasons why the grass could not have existed, such as wildfires, tsunamis, flooding, and similar occurrences.

Since grass is a primary producer, we can infer that it is the base of the food chain or web. Without grass, cows cannot survive; in turn, this results in the death of the cow, which eliminates the food source for other animals. Eventually, the animals reach the top of the food chain, where they gradually become extinct and must either find another place to live or eat something else, which may damage the plants.
