Here are some of the rules for naming alkynes.

Alkynes are unsaturated hydrocarbons containing a triple bond, #"R-C≡C-R"#.

They are named in the same manner as alkanes, with the exception that the -ane ending is swapped out for -yne.

You obtain -diyne, -triyne, etc. by using the multiplying prefixes when there are multiple triple bonds.

Step 1: Determine which continuous carbon chain has the triple bond the longest.

For example, #"CH"_3"CH"_2"CH"_2"C≡CCH"_3# has six carbon atoms, so its base name is hexyne.

Step 2: Start counting the main chain's carbon atoms from the end that is closest to the triple bond.

Step 3: List any additional substituents in alphabetical order along with their locating numbers.
