How do you find the range of each function given the domain: #g(m)=m^2; {-2,0,2}#?

Answer 1

The set of numbers #y# such that #0 <= y <= 4#

For this one, all you have to do is plug some numbers in. If #m = 0#, then #y = g(m) = 0#.
#y = g(m)# is always #>=0#, becase if #m# is negative, #m^2# is positive.
At m = -2 and 2, #y = g(m) = 4#. For y to be greater than 4, m would have to be greater than 2 (or less than -2).

So your range is between 0 and 4, inclusive.

GOOD LUCK!

Answer 2

Substitute each value from the given domain into the function and identify the corresponding output values. The range is the set of all distinct output values.

[ g(-2) = 4, \quad g(0) = 0, \quad g(2) = 4 ]

The range is {0, 4}.

When evaluating a one-sided limit, you need to be careful when a quantity is approaching zero since its sign is different depending on which way it is approaching zero from. Let us look at some examples.
