How do you find the absolute value of #abs(10)#?

Answer 1

#|10|=10#

Absolute value of a number is its value sans its sign, positive or negative i.e. for #17# or #+17# (absence of any sign means it is positive), it is #17# and for #-17# to it is #17#.

Number #10# has no sign i.e. it is positive and hence, we can say that #|10|=10#.

Graphically, absolute value of a number can be described as distance of its location on real number line from origin i.e. point described as #0#, irrespective of its direction, whether towards positive or negative side of origin.

When evaluating a one-sided limit, you need to be careful when a quantity is approaching zero since its sign is different depending on which way it is approaching zero from. Let us look at some examples.
