How do you convert grams to kilograms?

Answer 1

See the explanation.

The equality between grams and kilograms is #"1000 g=1 kg"#. This gives two equivalent fractions, also called conversion factors. They are #"1000 g"/"1 kg"# and #"1 kg"/"1000 g"=1"#. Equivalent fractions or conversion factors always equal #1#. When converting grams to kilograms, you would use the second conversion factor. This will cancel grams and leave you with kilograms.

As an example

1) Convert #"692 g"# to kilograms.
#692 cancel"g"xx(1 "kg")/(1000 cancel"g")="0.692 kg"#
2) Convert #"58 g"# to kilograms.
#58 cancelcancel"g"xx(1 "kg")/(1000 cancel"g")="0.58 kg"#
