How can you find formula mass?

Answer 1

Got a #"Periodic Table.......?"#

So let us take a simple inorganic salt, #Na^(+)PF_6^(-)#. Get your Table which lists all known elements, and look up the table to find the molar masses of each element (and you will soon commit the common ones to memory)..... Phosphorus has a molar mass of #31.00*g*mol^-1#; sodium has a molar mass of #22.99*g*mol^-1#; and fluorine has a molar mass of #19.00*g*mol^-1#.
And we simply add the masses of the atoms together to according to the given formula, that is ......................#{22.99+31.00+6xx19.00}*g*mol^-1=167.95*g*mol^-1#.
So can you repeat the calculation for #CaCO_3#, #C_6F_6#, #C_5H_12#..........? Have a go.......

When evaluating a one-sided limit, you need to be careful when a quantity is approaching zero since its sign is different depending on which way it is approaching zero from. Let us look at some examples.
