How can parallax be used to determine distances?

Answer 1

Position of a distant star with respect to a nearby star is measured when tthe Earth moves around Sun in 6 months.

Since we know the distance from Earth to Sun from the angle we can calculate the distance to stars..This angle is called parallax.

Answer 2

By measuring the apparent shift in an object's position when viewed from two different points, parallax can be used to calculate distances. The method is commonly used in astronomy to calculate the distances to stars and other celestial objects. Trigonometry can be used to calculate the distance to the object by knowing the baseline distance between the two viewing points and the angle of the shift.

When evaluating a one-sided limit, you need to be careful when a quantity is approaching zero since its sign is different depending on which way it is approaching zero from. Let us look at some examples.
