Whoa, that's a difficult question. I'll respond by discussing climate change in light of what I believe you are interested in knowing.
First, lowering solar energy. This sounds a little science fiction, but it is being considered. Basically, we would put a shield of some kind—think of a pretty parasol—between the Earth and the sun. There are a lot of details that need to be worked out, such as how much solar energy we should block.
The more sensible solutions involve increasing the amount of heat that the Earth emits; essentially, we can do this by raising the Earth's albedo, or reflectivity, or by decreasing the atmosphere's greenhouse effect. These solutions can be applied on a large or small scale by any individual on the planet; I'll give you some examples of what an individual can do.
The easiest way to raise the albedo of the Earth is for an individual to replace the roofing on their home. Light grey shingles reflect sunlight more than black shingles do. If you are installing a driveway, use light colored concrete or paving stones instead of black asphalt. You could also break up an abandoned asphalt parking lot in your city and replace it with vegetation.
There are two main ways to lessen the greenhouse effect: either reduce the amount of greenhouse gases you release into the atmosphere (e.g., CO2 and CH4), which can be easily done by running fewer combustion engines and eating less meat (as farm animals can produce a lot of methane). Alternatively, and this is the simplest method because it requires no major lifestyle changes, plant a tree (as trees absorb more CO2 than grass over the same area). Another great idea is to replace a fence with a hedge.

Trees
Before anyone thinks this is an easy fix, let me just point out how many trees are probably going to be needed. The South American rainforest peaked in 1492, which is a good time to look at because there was no forestry in either North or South America before then. Over the course of the last 500+ years, we have removed (and not replanted) about 4 BILLION acres of trees. This means that every person on the planet would probably need to plant 100 trees, which is obviously unlikely to happen, but every little bit helps.
The lesson from the story is to plant trees as soon as possible.
