Furthermore, a number of processes are known to promote cell growth. For instance, cells can divide in response to specific signals.

A malfunction in either of these two processes would result in uncontrolled mitosis and cancer. For instance, a cell may develop cancer if the stimulant continued stimulating when it shouldn't have or if the regulator proteins weren't regulating correctly.
