Does chromatin consist of nucleosomes or do nucleosomes consist of chromatin?

Answer 1

Chromatin consists of nucleosomes

The intricate web of thread-like structures called chromatin is present in non-dividing eukaryotic cells.

It is clear that nucleosomes form chromatin, not the other way around, since chromatin is made up of DNA wrapped around proteins called histones, which help the protein fit inside the nucleus. A nucleosome is made up of eight histone proteins and DNA wrapped around them in a specific sequence.

But each species has a different number of nucleosomes based on how many base pairs are in its genome, which ultimately determines how long its DNA is.
