Amines and amides both contain the element nitrogen.

Amines are organic molecules of the form #NR_3#; these include primary amines, #RNH_2#, and secondary amines, #R_2NH#, and tertiary amines, #R_3N#. Amides are (usually!) acid derivatives, i.e. #R'C(=O)NR_2#.

Sometimes, we use the term #"amide"# to describe salts of ammonia that are obtained in non-aqueous solution: i.e. sodium amide, #NaNH_2#.
