A fetus has a special type of hemoglobin. What is this called?

Answer 1

Fetal hemoglobin (Also known as Homoglobin F/HbF)

which, in contrast to adult hemoglobin, is able to bind oxygen with a greater affinity than the adult form, giving the developing fetus better access to the oxygen from the mother's bloodstream. This makes it the main oxygen transport protein in the human fetus during the last seven months of development in the uterus and persists in the newborn until they are approximately 6 months old.

About six months after birth, adult hemoglobin replaces it almost entirely, with the exception of a small number of thalassemia cases, where the production of hemoglobin F may not stop until the child is three to five years old.
