If the earth is a conscious entity, then it should be treated with the same respect as living things, according to the Gaia Hypothesis, which serves as justification for earth conservation.

The Gaia hypothesis can be used to justify environmental issues, which is sufficient reason for some people to believe in it. For others, there are other reasons that are sufficient to support environmental issues, negating the need for an unsupported Gaia hypothesis.
