Part of the limbic system, the amygdala has been shown to play a major role in the processing of emotions. It is in charge of controlling aggression and registering emotions like fear, anger, and sadness.

The body systems that the amygdala affects include: 1) arousal; 2) autonomic reactions linked to fear; 3) emotional learning and response; 4) hormone secretions; and 5) memory.
