Common allergic reactions include hay fever, atopic dermatitis, allergic asthma, and anaphylaxis. Allergy reactions may be triggered by dust, pollen, specific foods, insect stings, and medications like aspirin and antibiotics like penicillin.

The fundamental process consists of immunoglobulin E antibodies attaching to an allergen and then binding to a mast cell receptor, which causes the mast cells to release chemicals that cause inflammation, such as histamines.

In addition to avoiding known allergens, medications such as steroids and antihistamines are used to treat allergies; injectable adrenaline is advised in cases of severe reactions.

Allergy immunity can develop at any age during adulthood, even though many people eventually outgrow allergies.
