What is the difference between a #"chemical formula"#, and a #"chemical compound"#?

Answer 1

A chemical compound is what we put into the bottle. A chemical formula is what we write on the label to stick on the bottle.

Chemical formulae are our attempts to represent these compositions (sometimes, rarely, the composition is wrong!). Chemical compounds are mixtures of chemicals with definite proportions and definite physical properties (I know I am telling you nothing new).

Answer 2

A chemical formula represents the composition of a substance using symbols for the elements and numerical subscripts to indicate the ratio of atoms. A chemical compound is a substance composed of two or more different elements chemically bonded together in fixed proportions, represented by its chemical formula.

Answer 3

A chemical formula represents the composition of a substance using symbols of the elements present and numerical subscripts to indicate the ratio of atoms in the compound. It provides information about the types and proportions of atoms that make up a molecule.

A chemical compound, on the other hand, refers to a substance composed of two or more different elements chemically bonded together. It consists of molecules, ions, or a combination of both. Compounds have unique properties distinct from the elements they are composed of, and their formation involves chemical reactions where atoms combine to form bonds.

In summary, a chemical formula is a symbolic representation of the composition of a substance, while a chemical compound is a substance composed of two or more different elements chemically bonded together.

When evaluating a one-sided limit, you need to be careful when a quantity is approaching zero since its sign is different depending on which way it is approaching zero from. Let us look at some examples.
